Those of us who have been on a diet, you’ll know how difficult it is to lose weight.
The suffering of not eating what you want, going through the pain of exercising, and being on a strict diet for weight loss is excruciating and challenging. But starving yourself to lose weight is not the answer either, for you still need some calories for your body.
There must be a proportionate and ideal consumption every day in order to lose weight and still remain healthy.
So how many calories do you need to lose weight?
Since everyone’s ideal weight is different, the best way to remember is that: the more you eat than you burn, the more weight you’ll gain.
According to earlier studies, 3,500 calories are roughly equivalent to 1 pound (0.45 kilogram) of fat. So, burning or reducing 500 calories per day can result in a weekly weight loss of 1 pound. But not everyone will experience this since everyone’s condition is different.
In general, reducing your daily calorie intake by about 500 calories may help on your diet journey. For starters, you can make this your first goal before planning to go a step further later on.
It sounds easy. However, it’s more challenging because you typically lose a combination of fat, lean tissue, and water when you lose weight. Additionally, sometimes this can also mean that you must cut back on your favorite food like pizzas or burgers.
How many calories should I eat in a day?
Let’s say you want to maintain your weight, but you don’t want to gain too much or too light either.
It won’t make sense to eat whatever you want, that defeats the purpose of a good weight.
The best thing to do is to maintain your weight. Ideally, women should consume 2,000 calories per day and men should consume 2,500. These are the average daily calorie intake of a person of man and woman, it may not be similar to yours, but this can be a benchmark for a fit and healthy lifestyle.
We eat at least three or four times a day, the question now is how to maintain your calorie intake to 2,000 or 2,500 calories. So in each meal, you are having, you must eat at least about 500-700 calories to maintain your weight.
So, what must I eat?
This does not always mean that you need to eat specific food to lose weight or maintain them.
You can still eat whatever you want, though it is recommended to limit your consumption. Perhaps having alternatives will be better so that your calorie intake will be even more manageable.
An alternative meal
Let’s say you want to eat a beef burger you’ll feel full. Averagely, a whole beef burger is about 230 calories.
However, if you switch to eating a plant-based burger, you’ll still be able to satisfy your hunger but with even fewer calories. A plant-based burger has about 153 calories.
As you can see, the plant-based burger has fewer calories and they still give the same taste and fullness when you eat. Thus, helping you maintain and lose some calories.
